I can't seem to reach HomeGenie over my home network unless I disable the Windows Firewall on the machine where HomeGenie is running (which of course is not acceptable).

I've looked in the Inbound rules of Windows Firewall, and I see that there's an entry for homegeniemanager.exe, and the rule will allow access between any local or remote address, for all local or remote ports, and just for UDP protocol port 17. And that's it, no other rule for HomeGenie, either in the inbound or the outbound rules.

Should there be a rule added? Thanks

I believe when I had HG set up on my Windows box I had the firewall rule on HomeGenie.exe rather than the manager.  Switch it over and everything should work.

I had a big problem with this too when running on my Server 2012 instance. If the suggestion from bkenobu doesn't work for you, I'll log into my server and see what settings I applied.

Can anyone please help?

I've tried adding rules for the HomeGenie programs, and rules for TCP/UDP to the HTTP port 80. Nothing seems to work. If I can't access HG over the network, then it's of no use to me.

You mean this:

Config panel -> Windows Firewall -> Advanced Settings -> Inbound Rules -> New Rule -> Port -> Next -> TCP -> "Specific local ports:" = 80 -> Next -> "Allow the connection" -> Next -> Domain+Private for LAN to work in all conditions (Public is optional or if you have your LAN configured weird) -> Next -> "Name" = HomeGenie -> Finish

Yes. As I said in the previous message, I've done that for both TCP and UDP for port 80 on both inbound and outbound rules. Nothing seems to help.

I've done the trick of last resort, and rebooted everything in sight. I now seem to be able to reach HG over the network, so whatever the problem was, it seems to have been resolved...
