Title: Noob, can't figure out what I am doing wrong
Post by: moxxfusion on March 08, 2014, 07:43:30 AM
I recently got into the Z-wave world by purchasing a raspberry Pi and a Razberry z-wave module. I set up all my z-wave devices (thermostat, several lights, door and motion sensors) using the z-way automation interface that comes with the razberry module. I found the user interface too limiting and wanted to try Homegenie.

Problem #1 - all my z-wave devices show up and I can add them to a group but HG will not communicate with them (will not turn on or off or get any manufacture info from them). It says  operatiojn time out when trying to get the manufacture info. Any suggestions?

Problem #2 - I have tried adding a UPNP device (TV and media server), it shows up in the list but when it adds into a group it shows up as a sensor. Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Not sure about problem #2 but I have the same issue as #1.  Try pressing the pair/wake button on your z wave device before clicking get.  That usually does the trick.  Also helps to press the button again after adding it and HG will suddenly get info about it in the top right of the server page.

I installed HG on my PI with a Razberry.
All seems to be working.
But I can't add any Z-wave device.
When I add a node the red led on the razberry (according to the docs this is correct) is on but each operation always fails, after several retry this red led doesn't turn off.

Since there is no real antenna on the Razberry I put the device near it so the actual distance is 10 cm at the moment I try to add.

Am I doing something wrong or am I trying to add devices wich are incompatible?

Can you copy/paste z-wave logs?
To see debugging info see this message:

also if you want help testing, upgrade to latest r356 that has some little updates to SerialPortLib/ZWaveLib:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/homegenie/files/testing/

Thanks!

Have you disabled the Z-Way service?  I had similar issues that were solved by this.

I consider to do a clean install through image on sd-card.
Is it necesary to install z-way software or is the razberry plug n play in HG?
