I've created the attached document to hopefully help other newcomers avoid some of the frustrating pitfalls that I encountered getting a small basic config up and running.  Feel free to add / change / modify etc....

I tried to look at the document in my decrepit Word 2007 and it didn't load.  Either this document is formatted for newer versions or it's corrupted for some reason.  I'll try tomorrow on my work machine which has 2013.

It was written with Word 2010.  I don't recall when the docx format became standard but maybe it was in 2010?

I can usually view newer format files (docx, xlsx, etc) but that one didn't work.  I'll try again and review.

My phone was able to view the first file and it looks pretty good.  It should help people get the first module set up quickly which is really the hardest part.  The one thing I'd recommend including that wasn't covered is how to set up X10 in the setup menu.  It's not complicated but might be worth at least mentioning.

An update of the document.
I add some information about zwave and so precision.

I open with openoffice, but it seems that your document is a little bit weird on it (pics). It's good idea to explain how to configure a simple device.

Hey guys.  Thanks for the inputs!

I'll make some updates soon and post again.

There is no way I could have come this far without the patience of this community...I needed to give back in some way... and hopefully help other newbies not get as discouraged as I got with this thing early on.

OK I started with Nolio's doc and reformatted a couple things and added a pointer to the  mono log info that Kenobi added... thanks all.
