Nice, haven't had much time to test it but here are my first impressions.

Good
- Fast, feels much quicker than the previous client.
- More efficient use of the screen, looks better/cleaner too.

Nice to have
- I can't seem to get the widgets side by side on my phone, works on the tablet though. (both have the same resolution and I have a fairly large screen on the phone) It would be nice to have an option for side by side on a phone.
- Would be nice to be able to move from group to group by swiping left/right.
- Support for custom widgets would be great, but I don;t know how difficult this would be to implement.

Bad
Charging 10 euro for a Beta version will probably put a lot of people off testing for you, I see it as a donation for all of your work, but others might not see it that way.

Al in all a much better client than the old one, I usually avoided using the old client if I could. But I can see myself using this one more.

Thanks for quick feedback.

About your requests:
- What do you mean by "side by side"'?
- I will add swipe gesture as an option in the "preference" page
- I will think of a way for developing external loadable plugins/widgets (already been thinking of it)

About the bad stuff: it's ok that only few people will get into this beta because it costs 10 euros. Only people who really find HG of any use will probably try this. Those people, like you, can ask for new features and have the client improved.
Anyway there's still the free open source client option for all others.

Thanks Gene.

I meant two rows of widgets side by side like in the screenshot above, on my phone (OnePlus One) I only get one row of widgets. (resolution is 1080×1920)

Just added the "Enable swipe gesture" option. The update will be available in few hours. When adding new options to the preference page, the current configuration will be reset, so the setup will run again.

Does it arrange on more columns if you rotate the screen? It is working on my two devices (both phone and tablet) and all emulators.
I will try to create an emulator image similar to your device. Which Android version has your phone?

I like it a lot. Open almost instantly on my phone and tablet.

I also have only one column of widgets on my phone in portrait mode, but two rows in landscape mode.

My phone is a Nexus 5 running Android 6.0, resolution 1080 x 1920.

Yes, I get three rows when in landscape, but I prefer to work in portrait mode. It would be great if it was possible to show two rows on the phone.

I forgot to add that while away this afternoon I tested the app over the mobile network (with VPN), seems to work much faster than the old app. :)

I signed up for the beta but then saw the price.  I don't really use the current client, so I don't know if I'd use the Plus version.  I was going to beta test if the beta was free even if I didn't end up using it.  I don't have a payment method associated with my Play account, so it's not really an option anyway.

That said, the pictures and description do look like this will be an excellent interface!

Just like mvdarend I see the 10 Euro just as a donation for the fantastic work done with HomeGenie. Really not an issue, so I gladly paid to try the new software.

So far I'm really impressed with the speed. This new version for Android is making my 7" tablet I use as master controller absolutely shine, a huge improvement over the old software.

Definitely an improvement over the old one.  $10 seems a bit much but I had free credits I didn't know what to do with so you're welcome  8)

Now if only someone could get the first alert smoke alarm to work with HG...  ;D

Gene, is it possible to add an option to always start with the widgets in minimized mode (for the widget where this option applies).

And maybe if you feel generous, have a day and night skin. Bright colours (current skin) for day and very dark colours for night, with an option to set a time to auto switch from day to night skin and reverse.

Hi Gene!

I managed to download the program. The design is very cool. It works on Padfone 2 phone (720 x 1280), and Chuwi Vi7 tablet (1024x600) In this version I miss Generic IP camera and UPNP modul.

Hi KaZe and enterprised I will work on all of your requests.
I like the "auto-skin" idea :)

So let's have a summary of next implementations:

- widgets minimized at start
- generic camera widget
- media renderer and media browser widgets (upnp)
- auto switching day/night skin (perhaps let the user change the colors schema)
- other minor improvements to existing widgets

Not to belabor the point, but something that should be noted about charging for apps is when someone has multiple devices on different accounts, they cannot install the app on all devices.

For instance, I have a phone and my wife has a phone and tablet.  If I want to use my phone and her tablet as the primary means to interact with HG via the plus app, I would have to either move the tablet to my account, purchase a new tablet, or purchase the app 2x.  This is more of a criticism of the way the Play store works than of the decision to charge, but it's something I've had an issue with in the past (with a media player app) and something I've have to consider when selecting which app to go with in general.

Hi bkenobi,

I didn't think about this... what price would sound like a fair one for multiple installations?

You can connect multiple Play accounts on each device, and only sync the app purchases.  So one way would be to have a family Play account just for buying/sharing apps.

That's exactly how I have it setup for the kids. They each have their own account, plus we have one shared account, the shared account is added to their tablets as a 'sub-account'. I then use the shared account to purchase Apps which they can then all use, works fine.

Edit
: BTW thanks for adding the swiping of groups, works great.

I thought you could only have a single account for a device.  I wasn't aware that you could have multiple at the same time.  I'll look into that option, thanks.

I think I may have found a bug.

I've not determined the exact time interval, but it looks like approx. once every two hours, HomeGenie Plus seems to crash and shut down. When I launch the program again all is OK for the next hour or two and then it crashes again.

Is there a log file I can look at?

My app crash too every few hour. Both program. (Homgenie and Homegenie Plus)

And I found the other, which present on HomeGenie app (http://www.homegenie.it/forum/index.php?topic=1109.0 (http://www.homegenie.it/forum/index.php?topic=1109.0))
If the Security System alarm, I can't see it on HomeGenie Plus. Just see "Armed Home" or "Armed Away". No alarm status.

Enterprised and KaZe: cannot see any crash report in the play store. Does the app crash after being two hours in the background or as a foreground app?
KaZe: I will include the alarm status in the next beta release (this weekend).
Title: Re: HomeGenie Plus for Android
Post by: KaZe on October 27, 2015, 10:16:33 AM
Thanks Gene!

I send crash report from HomeGenie app. If plus crashed again, I send too. In my case, HomeGenie app and plus app crash, when I start the app, send background, and a few hours later start the app again. It's crashing, then I can start again normaly.

BTW, I found a new little bug. Status widget can't show information correctly. Attack the screenshots. "Szimuláció ideje" widget show well in browser and HomeGenie app, but HomGenie plus don't show everything.

So this is a known issue (sending the app in the background and restore after few hours) that is going to be fixed for next beta release.
I'll fix the status widget as well.

Title: New version results good
Post by: Acorlin on October 27, 2015, 08:15:53 PM
Gene--
The new version looks good for me so far.
2 questions--
Will it run on Android 2.3.1 Cruz tablets? I have 3 of them around the house I want to use for control. These do not have Google Play installed as a factory option. Is there a way to directly download the app?

I did not mind paying to test the new version.  I would like to use it on all three tablets if it can be loaded. Is payment for my personal use or for each instance?
Thank you.

it requires API level 14 and up, so it won't run on android 2. There's a free version of HomeGenie for Android that runs on 2.x as well.

Wasn't quite sure where to post below so put this on Github (if that is not appropriate pls remove).

Have installed Homegenie Plus after using Homegenie Android for the last year. Like it a lot, also as pure mobile app. Couple of features I would think add further value:

- option to enable vibrate in the preferences menu to allow the device to vibrate shortly when selecting the switch/lamp/etc. to switch on or off. This helps in confirming the user that the button was actually pressed.
- option to customize the colors/styling of the UI. Personally I like the style (fonts, colors) of the standard Android app better. I guess that is quite subjective and as such it would be great if one could select a template.
- I run the app on a Galaxy s6 and for me, the widgets might even fold down smaller. I can see in some screenshots that multiple widgets sit on the same horizontal row but I dont see that on my phone. I am not sure what defines the layout but either having more control on that or an option to further fold down the widgets would be great.

Gene--
My Cruz tablets do not have a native Google Play Store installed. I cannot download a version of the Play Store that will run on my tablets. I have tried 5 different versions.

Is the original HomeGenie Andorid available online anywhere for download so I can try and load it?
I have looked and cannot see a download area.

So far the Plus version has been up and running with no problems on my home control laptop.
Thank you.

Running fine on my Nexus 5.

Hi Gene,

Yes, looked into that but if you associate that to a level of a switch there is a significant time delay between pressing the button and hearing the sound. My idea would be to vibrate in sync with the touch visualization of the widget (grey color that fills the entire widget).

Maybe, if you have time, you can have a look at the Yatse remote control app (settings -> interface settings -> vibrate on touch). That kind of functionality works perfectly for a remote control...

hi a2tech, the problem is on the HG server side rather than the client. So we've got to make some tests. Do you know how to start HG from a terminal in order to see loggging messages? or if not you can download the logs from the maintenance page after trying manually these urls:

http://HG_SERVER_ADDRESS/api/HomeAutomation.ZWave/ZWAVE_NODE_NUMBER/Thermostat.SetPointSet/Heating/22
http://HG_SERVER_ADDRESS/api/HomeAutomation.ZWave/ZWAVE_NODE_NUMBER/Thermostat.SetPointGet/Heating
(try both celsius and faherheneit values)

also try pressing the local button on the device before issuing these commends.

Is it possible to reduce the top bar with "Homegenie" and the name of the group ?

Yes Kaze,

door and motion sensor level is now shown only as red circle around the image. Isn't that ok? Did you prefer the other way? Like noilio pointed out, the status.level field is a redundant information since you already notice about the image status highlight.
I can reduce the haptic feedback from 250 to 100 ms.

Hi Gene,

Thanks for adding shutters and haptic. Agree that the haptic period might be reduced a bit to be similar to haptic feedback when selected on an Android keyboard.

Further feedback:
- After discovery detects the server, the port number is set to 80 by default. Not sure if this can be detected but if it is set to something else, it is not detected.
- I use all switches etc. folded in (smallest amount of screen space used). After set-up this setting is lost.
- Can password be saved? If use the app on my phone only so no need for continuous authentication.

Pim
Title: Re: HomeGenie Plus for Android
Post by: Gene on October 31, 2015, 11:43:17 PM
Hi Pim,

- discovery autodetects the port: did you restart hg after changing the port? (this is working for me)
- the setting is lost every time you run setup again (but I'll see a way of retaining config when connecting again to the same server)
- password is asked everytime you run setup because that way only the administrator can decide what modules will be available on that device. so you can restrict access for people you don't want to mess with all modules and have admin access to the system

I found a bug. I take some screenshot.

If I disable a program, which has a widget, the widget go to "Undefined" status. It's ok. But, if I start the setup wizard in HG plus, it's don't show the undefined widget (it's ok) AND the next widget in the line. If the program run, the setup wizard show both widgets.

I decided to first give update 9 a go. Glad I did so. Update 9 is rock solid and my crashes are gone. my tablet has been running flawless since the update.

Thanks for the good work.

HG+ beta 1.0 Rev. 10 is now published:

- Added animation for active status indicator in all widgets
- Fix bug in sensor widget (not updating status sometime)
- Added auto-refresh of last action timestamp every minute
- Better contrast color for sensor parameter icons in dark theme
- Show "Unhautorized" message when access password has been changed on server

This is the candidate for the first public release on the Google Play Store.
After that there will still be development in the beta channel (eg. UPnP/DLNA widget and other stuff) that will be made public in the store after testing.
As alway feel free to ask for new features if you need some extra ones.

Enjoy!

Hi Gene,

Like the app very much but personally dont like the animation for the active status.

Have been thinking about this a bit and my 2 cents would be to not use any animation as that distracts. However, I am also not sure if red is the best color to use as I associate red with something wrong.

My suggestion would be to use a more neutral color (eg blue as used in the dark color scheme) and leave the animation out (or make it optional).

Another remark is wrt connection status. Would it be possible to keep the session up and running for a longer period of time such that it doesnt close when the screen goes off?

Best

I think the best way to animation is:
 If widget turn on, the circle blinking for a few sec. Then light in red, as before in rev 9.

Yes, I agree. I think a blue circle to indicate on would be better. Although the current animation would be a good fit for alarm sensors (Motion, Smoke alarm etc.)

Well I don't like the animation too :D
So let's make it blink just for a few and then be still like in previous release (blue color instead of red).
As mvdarend suggest perhaps the animation could be useful for sensors so I'll add an option in the user prefs for this.
I'll also try to keep the connection open for a couple of minutes after screen blanking/locking.

Sounds good.

One other remark...the Android notification bar turns light gray with white font when selecting the dark theme. This makes it unreadable. Would it be an option to make the notification bar black with white or gray font?

I too like the app a lot. In the free app the wunderground widget is automatically updated, but not in HG+. I have to quit the app and restarted it, or reconnect thru the setup screen. I would also prefer to have the date and time displayed in the last action or updated line instead of x hours or days ago.

Thanks

the ones marked as "wip" should be available for the next release.

HG+ beta 1.0 Rev. 11 is now published:

- Added configurable speech message for each module parameter with special automatic codes (%m = module name, %p = parameter name, %v = value)
- Fix wrong status bar color when set to dark theme
- Wait one minute before disconnecting when app is paused
- Active status animation only for sensors; changed color to light blue
- Fix refresh bug of weather widget and sensor widget battery status

Enjoy!

I noticed yesterday evening that the Fibaro RGBW Led strip is not changing to the selected colour. Choosing a colour seems to just send an 'On' command, is anyone else having this problem?

I didn't have much time to investigate, I'll try to get some more info this evening.

I think that the Fibaro RGB program needs to be fixed/updated. Because it's actually accept the Color.Hsb command but interprets it as rgb values. So a fix to the program could be changing the current Color.Hsb to Color.Rgb and add a properly implemented Color.Hsb command that converts values from hsb to rgb.

I just checked it and you are correct, it's not a problem with HomeGenie Plus.

If Dani doesn't mind I'll have a go at changing the Fibaro RGBW APP (and widget). Although I had a lot of problems converting RGB to HSV (http://www.homegenie.it/forum/index.php?topic=429.0) previously.

Hi mvdarend.

try this:

Code: [Select]
var ColorFromHSL = new Func<double,double,double,dynamic>((double hue, double saturation, double brightness) => {
  double red = 0, green = 0, blue = 0;
  if (saturation == 0)
  {
    red = green = blue = brightness;
  }
  else
  {
    // the color wheel consists of 6 sectors. Figure out which sector you're in.
    double sectorPos = hue / 60.0;
    int sectorNumber = (int)(Math.Floor(sectorPos));
    // get the fractional part of the sector
    double fractionalSector = sectorPos - sectorNumber;

    // calculate values for the three axes of the color.
    double p = brightness * (1.0 - saturation);
    double q = brightness * (1.0 - (saturation * fractionalSector));
    double t = brightness * (1.0 - (saturation * (1 - fractionalSector)));

    // assign the fractional colors to r, g, and b based on the sector the angle is in.
    switch (sectorNumber)
    {
      case 0:
        red = brightness;
        green = t;
        blue = p;
        break;
      case 1:
        red = q;
        green = brightness;
        blue = p;
        break;
      case 2:
        red = p;
        green = brightness;
        blue = t;
        break;
      case 3:
        red = p;
        green = q;
        blue = brightness;
        break;
      case 4:
        red = t;
        green = p;
        blue = brightness;
       break;
      case 5:
        red = brightness;
        green = p;
        blue = q;
        break;
    }
  }
  dynamic color = new ExpandoObject();
  color.Red = (int)(red*255d);
  color.Green = (int)(green*255d);
  color.Blue = (int)(blue*255d);
  return color;
});

and call it like:

Code: [Select]
// Example hsv values
double h = 0.28954248366013263 * 360; // <-- multiply first value by 360
double s = 0.8437499999999998;
double v = 0.7529411764705882;
// Get the RGB data
var colorRgb = ColorFromHSL(h, s, v);
Program.Notify("Coverted to RGB", String.Format("R={0},G={1},B={2}", colorRgb.Red, colorRgb.Green, colorRgb.Blue));

Hi Michel,

please open the weather underground program in the editor and look at line 102:

Code: [Select]
      Program.RaiseEvent("Program.UiRefresh", "Data Updated", "");

do you have that? If you see that, can you try recompiling the program? Perhaps missed to update the app properly in r500.

Thanks Gene,

That did the trick. I'm using a custom Weather Underground program that I modified to add  some time expressions based on sunset time in WU.

Is there a way to know the last date and time a program being part of HG has been modified ? That would allow us to check this info against or custom programs.

Thanks for the code example Gene, I've renamed the original ColorHsb to ColorRgb and used your code in the new ColorHsb, and now the Fibaro RGBW works with HomeGenie Plus

The web widget also works with the new code. I'll do some more testing and code cleanup. I'll submit a pull request within a few days.

I've modified Dani's Fibaro RGBW app to be compatible with HomeGenie Plus. Would anyone be interested in testing it?

The first file is a modified .hgx, you can either import it as a new program or overwrite the existing 'Program code' with the contents.

The second file; DaniMail-Fibaro-RGBW.js is for the Widget.
- Go to Configure -> Widgets
- Open the DaniMail/fibaro/rgbw widget
- Go to the Tab 'Javascript'
- Replace the code with that in the file.

- Known issue. Changing the color from HomeGenie Plus will update the color in the Web interface, but updating from the web interface or from a program will not update the color in the HomeGenie Plus interface. (It will show on/off state though)

I have tested with multicolor led strip, and your update dosn't work for change to fixed color. If I choice any color, the Led are shut off. With HG Plus under droid, Any action in the 4 default colors the led are shut off also. And I don't have access to a color wheel anymore.

Hi Dani,

Are you running v501 by chance? After upgrading to 501 I've been having lots of problems with controlling the virtual channels (even after a clean install and no modifications to the '502 - Fibaro RGBW code')

Hi Gene, this is a really nice and super fast application. Good work!

However, I am experiencing a problems for devices using my addon for tellstick.
The dimmer functionality and sensors are working fine but when I try to toogle the lights (on/off) by pressing the lamp icon nothing happends.
This functionality works when testing directly in the browser (clicking on/off). Is the app sending some other command such as "toogle"? Please see the code executed here: https://github.com/swaner/HomeGenieTelldusInterface/blob/master/TelldusLib/Tellstick.cs#L97

I don't really know how to troubleshoot. So if you have any advice what might be wrong with my code please let me know.

Thanks again  ::)

Your virtual switch is missing Control.Toggle
Code: [Select]
case "Control.Toggle":
if (module.Parameter("Status.Level").DecimalValue == 0)
{
  module.Parameter("Status.Level").Value = "1";
  Program.RaiseEvent(module, "Status.Level", "1", "VirtualSwitch");
}
 else
{
  module.Parameter("Status.Level").Value = "0";
  Program.RaiseEvent(module, "Status.Level", "0", "VirtualSwitch");
}

Untested code, but it should work, i think.

@mvdarend,

I added the control.toggle handling but that did not resolve the issue.

Turns out that when the switch is set from the Android app, the third parameter is NULL, hence the code that retrieves this parameter raises an exception. When I commented out the third argument (see below) the error is gone.

What does the third parameter contain? It is not used in the code for the virtual switch anyway so commenting out should not harm.

Code: [Select]
var moduleDomain = "HomeAutomation.Virtual.Switch";

When.WebServiceCallReceived(moduleDomain,(args) =>
{
  string[] request = ((string)args).Split('/');
  var response = "{ 'ResponseValue' : 'ERROR' }";
  try
  {
    string moduleId = request[1];
    string command = request[2];
 //   string parameter = request[3].Replace("%20", " ");

    var module = Modules.InDomain(moduleDomain).WithAddress(moduleId).Get();

    switch(command)
    {
      case "Control.On":
        module.Parameter("Status.Level").Value = "1";
        Program.RaiseEvent(module, "Status.Level", "1", "Virtual Switch");
        break;
      case "Control.Off":
        module.Parameter("Status.Level").Value = "0";
        Program.RaiseEvent(module, "Status.Level", "0", "Virtual Switch");
        break;
      case "Control.Toggle":
if (module.Parameter("Status.Level").DecimalValue == 0)
{
  module.Parameter("Status.Level").Value = "1";
  Program.RaiseEvent(module, "Status.Level", "1", "VirtualSwitch");

I created my own virtual switch code some time ago which is very similar to what you have, but I've never tried fetching a third parameter. (Didin't even know one was sent :))

One thing I'm missing from HomeGenie plus is the ability to quickly dim the colored lights (without having to 'reprogram' one of the preset buttons.)

It would be great if you could have a slider under the colour selecter like this:

As I use the new app as the main mobile app, ie not specifically for a stationary controller, I find it annoying that I need to enter the password everytime I want to add modules to the app.

Would it be possible to grant this right from within the web app?

For example: in the web application you assign read/write rights for the mobile app without explicit authorization. Ideally you can do this per instance/user of the app. So some apps could only read (those on stationary controllers or for specific people) and others can also always add modules.

Hi Gene!

Is that possible to integrate the "ok google" service in HG Plus? I think this is very usefull for users, who use HG plus on tablet, with always on screen + HG plus always running. And the other suggestion for always on display users: HG plus must have the simple screen saver (like watch with black background)...so the HG plus always running on the tablet with always on display, and the HG sreensaver automatic turn on after a few minutes. So the HG plus integrated "ok google" always listening.

Hi Gene!

I test the voice control in HG Plus. So I thinking....Ok google no needed. But, I'd like the "always listening" option. I imagine it, that the user can choose "always listening" in voice control, and the user can define the "controller" command: like "ok google". So, if the user check always listening and set the control command to e.g. "start listening" than the HG Plus works this order:

1. User say: "start listening"
2. HG Plus: Say something like "Yes?!" or beep
3. User say: turn off center lamp
4. HG Plus: execute the command(s)
5. HG Plus: go back to always listening status

Then if the user like execute other command, user must say "start listening" command again.

What do you think?

Love this app.

If for whatever reason the homegenie cannot communicate with the device there is no indication this is happening.  Possibly a toast message reporting the communication error?

Also the circle around the light pictures.. I expected that to extend to the percentage of lightness.. full circle would be 100% and half circle for 50% and so forth.

As to the paying $10..
I paid it.. gladly.  No complaints.  Thank you for allowing us to use HomeGenie for free.  Your work is excellent.

Just purchased HG+... Thank you for all the great work on HG!!!

I vote for GoogleNow integration just to be able to use HG without going to specific app.  While pulling into driveway, this would be great to do completely hands free... "Okay Google, turn on the lights"

I have an Android Wear watch, but don't wear it all the time so I think it would be limited usefulness.  In the house, Amazon Echo is working great with HG.  Outside the house, phone is just about as easy as watch.  Notifications/texts already pop up there anyway.  Would definitely try out anything you came up with though :-)

Hi all,

HomeGenie Plus rev.19 just published.

Screen Saver option is now available. The screen saver shows time, weather, energy data and also a slideshow of pictures from the gallery.
The screen saver option can be enabled from the preference screen. It will start after the timeout period configure for screen lock in the device system preferences.

The energy monitor widget now is showing the Watt Load Graph as default graph. To switch to kW counter graph tap on the counter label.

What's next?

Probably next updates will be regarding:
- Voice Control improvements
- Dynamic Widget loading, to allow other developers build their own widgets that can so be downloaded/installed into hg plus.

Please feel free to make any request of features you'd like to see implemented in hg plus.

just bought HomeGenie Plus (as i had a normal HomeGenie on my Android since a year).

I'd developed a widget for a wireless RFM Arduino like System, which is working on HomeGenie (Cubietruck system) very well, but i cannot see my widget Control inside HomeGenie Plus. Is there a way to make HomeGenie Plus able to handle these foreign widgets or what can i do to set a property inside widget to make it handable?

Thanks for an answer.
Best regards
Wolfgang

hi wolfgang, loading third party widgets will be possible at some point. It's in my to do list.

@all: in the meantime a new update for hg plus is available (r25). Hope to hear some feedback.

Hi Gene,

I try the new app, good optimization of space (reduce of menu when scrolling down) and rotate of serevals value is a good .
But I would prefer a reduction of the device's widget (like shutter in previous app version).
Could you reduce the widget's width ? It could be perfect :-)

Thanks

hi nolio, I'm not sure to understand what you  mean. can you please provide a screenshot? do you see less columns than in the previous version? so widgets appear larger?

I also have a problem with the display of WU widget in the latest release of HomeGenie Plus. The temperature does not show correctly either in portrait or landscape mode. Tablet Samsung Tab 10.5

In the latest version of HG + all my temp graphs are in Celsius though the display cards are in Fahrenheit.  Have I missed a setting somewhere?

Does HomeGenie plus use the new v2 widgets? I would like to customize them a little bit. (for example I don't like it that my Fibaro smoke sensors rotate through all the values, I'd like them to only show temperature except when there's a fire  :D )

I've just ordered it...
I figured you deserved at least that (well... More to be honest ;) ) for allowing me to secure and keep an eye on my home during my trip to the USA next month :)
