We use http://www.flyingtech.co.uk/electronics/apm-3dr-radio-telemetry-kit-433mhz for comms between a Quadcopter and a laptop at 443 MHz,    could these be used to link 433MHz RF equipment to Homegenie,    Cheap solution as low as about £12 on Ebay

All depends what you want to link to.. I have used these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/433mhz-RF-Transmitter-and-Receiver-pair-wireless-arduino-hobby-ASK-OOK-UK-A302-/151420294681?hash=item23415a5619:g:7CgAAOSwPe1UGCQD sort of modules succesfully with Homegenie going via an arduino with the RCSwitch library.

The modules mad4x4 linked use HopeRF modules which are some of the best on the market.  But, the module is installed on a pair of boards that communicate with each other somehow.  If you want to link HG to a single module using that link (or if that link can handle more than one remote module) then it might work.  But, I have no idea what the drivers look like or if they would be easily linked to HG.

Also, it really depends on what you mean by

If you want to make a custom component using these as a link, you might be successful.  If you want to link to existing 433MHz equipment, that might be more challenging.  I have opted to write my own receiver software (borrowing heavily from other projects) on the Arduino platform.  The hardware works as a 433MHz to MQTT gateway currently using an Arduino UNO and a SR882 RF module.  I am currently updating the setup to utilize a NodeMCU board with a HopeRF 433MHz module to do the same but fully wirelessly.
