Title: Help needed with initial z-wave setup
Post by: chrisworks on November 02, 2014, 06:06:26 PM
Hi

I am a homegenie/razberry newbie and am experiencing difficulties in discovering my z-wave devices. My homegenie is a raspberry/razberry/homegenie setup and the install when fine.

I have configured the ZWave device port to /dev/ttyAMA0 and hit "Add Node". I then tripple click my z-wave switch and it starts to flash the reporting indicator LED. Homegenie does not report anything and the "add node" dialog is timedout after the 10 seconds. Discovery does not do anything either. What am I missing?

Switch is this one:

I have used these switches before in a different setup (z-wave dongle and pc) and the switches worked fine.

Did you exclude the modules first from your previous controller? For the Aeon-Labs S2 stick a single push on the button puts it in inclusion mode (flashes like once a second), and holding button down for 3+ seconds puts it in exclusion mode (flashes like 3x a second). If you have a different controller, consult its manual.

The inclusion/exclusion commands can also be controlled from within HomeGenie if the controller allows for it.

Follow the instructions on your Z-Wave modules on how to comply with the inclusion/exclusion command, which usually consists of pushing a little Z-Wave button on it.

Once excluded (like a reset), then you can try to include it again.

In most cases you can exclude a module on a different controller, but ideally you do this on the original controller configuration before you add it to your HomeGenie one.

Factory reset of a controller is not yet supported by HomeGenie, so I still have a couple of ghost modules on my Aeon-Labs S2 controller, but there is an open thread on the forum for that, and there are other programs that can be used till then.

Thank you for your response. The switches I am using a brand new and have not been included in previous setups. I have just used the same type of switches before without any problems. So I now how they work (or should work at least)

Once I push the switch fast 3 times it starts flashing a red light for a few seconds before settling to a constant red light for another 5 seconds before it times out. This is what I had to do before to make it discoverable by the z-wave controller.

But here nothings comes up in the homegenie screen.

Here's a couple of threads that may help you out:

I couldn't get my Razberry to work properly, but I put that down to my inexperience with Zwave at the time. I've never got around to trying it again.
